Crafting creativity: how we classify our fabrics.

Crafting creativity: how we classify our fabrics.

Today I want to delve into the specifics of our meticulous sorting and cataloging process.
It begins with the arrival of famous fashion houses' deadstock at our warehouses. Here with care and attention, we start separating them by composition; when fortune smiles upon us, we find the label that unveils the secrets of the roll; the other times we rely on our experience and time-honed tricks of the trade. I should clarify that I don't want to take all the credit for these methods since day where actually handed down to me through the deep knowledge of my mother, Erminia. Her wisdom and experience have been fundamental in shaping the approach we have today in managing our textiles.
One of our most reliable and astonishing methods to discover the composition of fabrics involves the use of a lighter. Yes, you read that right. A small gesture, slightly burning a part of the fabric, reveals its essence through the flame and the odor it emits. Silk, for instance, leaves us with small beads that crumble to the touch and a scent reminiscent of burnt hair, as does wool, while polyester forms hard beads and releases an scent of melted plastic. Cotton and viscose, on the other hand, see the flame dance along their fibers, releasing a aroma akin to that of burnt paper.
For mixed fabrics, we proceed by analyzing the threads in both the warp and weft, applying the same technique, a small action that allows us to ensure the authenticity and quality of what we offer. Once the secrets of each fabric are unveiled, we assign a unique code and organize them by type on dedicated pallets, ready to embark on a new life in the hands of the creatives who choose them.
But now, let me ask you: were you already familiar with these little secrets of ours? Do you perhaps have other tricks to suggest, new techniques to share with our community? Your knowledge and experience are an inexhaustible source of inspiration for us. We invite you to explore the vast range of fabrics we have sorted and cataloged, already available on our website. Each piece holds a story, a creative opportunity that awaits only to be discovered.
